Workshop: Improving Public Safety for People of Determination

Overview:

The Secure Communities Forum (SCF), in collaboration with partner organizations, including Singapore University of Social Sciences, The ARC, and Innovative Prison Systems, organized a virtual workshop titled "Public Safety Services and People of Determination" on July 18th, 2023. The event brought together 16 experts from law enforcement, EMS, academia, and the NGO sectors, representing 7 countries. The main focus of the workshop was to explore effective ways of serving and increasing safety for people of determination. Contributing Organizations:

 Singapore University of Social Sciences, The ARC, and Innovative Prison Systems. Additionally, experts from other esteemed organizations, including The Zayed Higher Organization on People of Determination, Exeter University, UCHO, Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission, Guarda Nacional Republicana of Portugal, Illinois Department of Human Rights, and UAE National Ambulance, Ministry of Intrerior UAE

Outcomes: During the workshop, several key outcomes were achieved.

  1. Launching a Working Group: The group of experts collectively decided to establish "The International Working Group on Public Safety and People of Determination." This initiative aims to facilitate regular discussions and collaborations among stakeholders to enhance safety measures and services for people of determination globally.

  2. Resource Center: the SCF, in conjunction with the expert group, is compiling a comprehensive virtual resource center on the SCF website. This repository will contain a wealth of resources, data, and training materials collected from various parts of the world, all focusing on public safety and the needs of people of determination.

  3. Guidelines: the SCF is currently in the process of creating a concise guideline to help public safety organizations better serve people of determination. This guideline will serve as a valuable resource to ensure that the specific needs and requirements of this group are met effectively.
