Overview:
On May 8th, 2024, the Secure Communities Forum (SCF) participated in the World Aging Festival organized by Ageing Asia in Singapore, which brought together over 3,000 attendees globally. This remarkable conference provided a platform to explore and discuss the best ways to support our cherished elderly populations.
The SCF organized a panel discussion focused on elderly safety in the digital era, highlighting critical issues and fostering multi-stakeholder dialogue on community safety.
Background:
Given the increasing digitalization, safeguarding the elderly's digital well-being is crucial. With a global aging population, law enforcement must prioritize addressing unique digital challenges for those aged 65 and above. Seniors are particularly vulnerable to online scams, identity theft, and digital exploitation, necessitating focused efforts to enhance digital safety. Training officers with empathy and cultural competence is essential, alongside community outreach programs addressing digital literacy. Recognizing and addressing specific digital challenges is vital for formulating policies that promote the elderly's digital safety and overall well-being in the digital age. Partners:
In collaboration with Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities, the SCF explored how police, civil society, tech companies, and everyday citizens can collaborate with elderly individuals to foster greater protection and security from digital threats such as identity theft and scams.
